Principal's welcome

Welcome

Welcome to Redbank Plains State High School, a large metropolitan high school of approximately 1800 students. Our school has experienced significant growth over the past few years, and this is anticipated to continue. There is a wide diversity of cultural backgrounds amongst our student body. The majority of our students are of European descent, and other major cultural groups are: Pacific Islander, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and African. This cultural diversity is a highlight of our school and has a major influence on programs, community engagement and management strategies.

Our guiding mantra for every member of the school community is "High Performance is Everyone's Business". The school prides itself on having high expectations in terms of achievement, behaviour, and appearance. These standards are set high at Redbank Plains SHS and it is important to us that new families enrolling in the School are aware of what is required by being a RPSHS student.

Our teachers and staff are committed to helping students achieve to their potential, no matter what it takes. Current students, parents and staff believe that this is a great school - one in which they want to learn and work. Most importantly, our students indicate they feel safe, they are happy and they are learning!

In 2016 the school is actioning a relentless and targeted focus on improving the level of ALL students’ Literacy and Numeracy. For some students this means providing challenge and extension while we will also endeavour to provide that extra support which some students require to get back on a positive track.

The Junior Secondary School (Years 7-9) is focussed on ensuring that each student has the prerequisite skills and knowledge for Senior School and gains exposure to a broad range of experiences which positions them to make specialisation decisions in the next phase of their schooling.

The Senior School (Years 10-12) is focussed on connecting every student to their preferred post schooling pathway. It features comprehensive curriculum offerings that include OP, school based and vocational educational courses. For students seeking direct employment combined with further training, the “Choices not Chances” program offers tremendous opportunities for our students to complete school and interface directly into further study or work with a partner organisation. Extensive partnerships with local, regional and state and multi-national companies have positioned the school to deliver programs focussed on real job opportunities. This includes industry training with ‘on the job’ context and relevance and always recruitment aligned with student abilities, interests and life pathways. The school provides a Senior Studies Centre where senior students can receive academic support and computer access to enable them to meet the 100% completion requirement the school expects.

Our school offers many activities and encourages all students to become involved and actively participate. We look forward to developing a strong partnership with your family as we develop a strong sense of community involvement within our school.
